| Among other things, my mother grows House Leeks (Sempervivum arachnoideum). These succulents usually show only a small rosette of fleshy green leaves close to the ground, but once a year they throw out tall flower stems with clumps of attractive pink flowers. 
										 This photograph is a close-up of the centre of the flower. The ring of yellow stamens surrounded by the pink petals reminds me of the flames on a cooker's gas ring.
